Where: Whitehall, City of Westminster, London

Story: A very rare photograph of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Procession as it proceeds down Whitehall in 1887. Photos of the Golden Jubilee tend to be overshadowed by the far bigger Diamond Jubilee celebrations 10 years later.

A Cameraman’s View Of 10 Downing Street

What: A Cameraman’s View Of 10 Downing Street

By:

When: May, 22nd, 2012

Where: 10 Downing Street, City Of Westminster, London, SW1

Story: This cameraman’s view of 10 Downing Dtreet was taken by my friend Nick Smith, who works as a freelance cameraman for various news networks, including CNN. In my opinion, it’s an interesting new look at one of London’s most iconic Landmark’s that almost no one these days gets to see up close. You can see more of Nick’s stuff on his website Newsworthy Vision.

Rainbow Over Palace of Westminster (Houses Of Parliament)

Rainbow Over Palace of Westminster

What: Rainbow Over Palace of Westminster (Houses Of Parliament)

By:

When: April 25th, 2012

Where: City of Westminster, London, SW1

Why: I found this picture of rainbow over the houses of parliament on reddit. It was taken last week after one of the many downpours. Harry Key, the photographer, was nice enough to let me to show it here. Given that today is election day (albeit local), one has to wonder if it is foreshadowing some kind of result.

London Student Protest – Vision Of A Post-Apocalyptic London

London Student Protest

What: London Student Protest – Vision Of A Post-Apocalyptic London

Where: City of Westminster, London, SW1A

Why: I should start off by saying that this is not my own work. I found it on Reddit from user WholeWideWorld. I just thought it was really neat looking and got his permission to share it here.

This is a photo from one of the London student protests that happened last year. I love the post-apocalyptic look of the photo, especially because it was taken in front of the Clock Tower (Big Ben), arguably the most photographed building on earth. As other users on Reddit have pointed out, it looks like something from the video game Half-life or the film Children of Men.

Beyond that, I also think the picture does a really good job of capturing the surrealness of the protests. To me the police don’t even look entirely real. But what do you think? Leave your comments below:

What: Boat in the Grosvenor Waterside development.

By:

When: December 5th, 2011.

Where: City of Westminster, SW1 in the Grosvenor Waterside development (Between Pimlico and Chelsea).

Why: I like this photo because it was unexpected. The Grosvenor Waterside development has space for narrow boats to dock, yet I have never actually seen one docked there. My guess is because the mooring fees are too high (The development’s moto is ‘reflecting Chelsea’), but there may be another reason.

The boat above is in fact the only boat I have ever seen docked anywhere in the development. So for me it just seemed really out of place, hence why I like it.
